New Horse, Lucky Us!

We were so lucky! The family who wanted to trade horses rode little KC over on Thursday, and rode Bell back to their stable. So smoothly transacted-- and with unregistered horses, you don't even need to sign any papers. Now we are happy to have this little, friendly horse. He is half POA (Pony of America)and half Morgan. We tried riding him on Saturday, and we could cinch the saddle up enough, but Bell's bridle could not be made small enough! So we just led little KC around the farmyard with Em on his back, and fed him treats for being a nice boy.

Congratulations, Gail and Emily!

POA's are my favorite breed! My best horse for 13 years was a POA x Quarter horse. She was the perfect size...big enough to do all the regular horse stuff and short enough to just hop on and go. I LOVED that about her. Minne's mother was a full POA and she was Clancy's horse his whole childhood. She lived to be over 30 years old and delivered Minne when she was in her late late 20's. I always felt that POA's had twice the personality of regular horses. That might have been because ours were mares, but I think it was more than that. Both of those ponies were like people in horse bodies.

I hope you have millions of hours of fun with your new friend. He is gorgeous and has a nice sweet face-always a good sign in a horse. :)

Oh Sabrina,
you are too kind. But I loved hearing your stories about Minne and her mother! Maybe I'd heard you talk about her before, and that is part of why I was especially happy to hear that KC was half POA. I think so, so thank you.

I don't think I told you I had a horse/pony when I was a kid. Her name was Queenie. She was a Welsh pony, in size between a horse and pony. I used to ride her to get the cows from the pasture, and still had her after I was married. She lived to a ripe old age. In fact, I just sold the saddle I had for her, which I seldom used. To much work, I usually rode bareback. Emily is so lucky to live in the country and be able to have animals. I keep telling monica that Noah needs some calves to feed! Love your blog!

Thanks Cousin Jean! ;-)
I think I saw a photo of Queenie once, a light colored pony. But I heard riding to get the cows was not much fun (my friend Mary from SD says that).
Nice to have your visit the other day, look forward to seeing your blog! And I had better get something new on my own soon!
