New Camera!

DH is the real camera man here, so he bought me a new little camera with 10x zoom. He went out this morning to photograph sheep and sunlight and chickens, just a test run:
Poppy and Lily the orphan twins, almost 10 weeks old, down to a watered-down bottle of milk a day. Darling girls:

Our fine rooster. We used to have two; he won.

He's americauna: a crossbred chicken who sires green-egg laying chicks. I am still waiting for one of our golden Buff Orpington hens to go broody this summer. We need her to hatch some Ancona ducklings for us!

I'm off, now, to do farm chores. It's a beautiful day for working, and I swear, if you aren't cutting it, trimming it, weeding it or painting it on the farm, nature takes it all back while you nap!

VERY pretty rooster. One rooster is plenty. :-)

Lovely photos Gail. Currently being very focused on chickens...must say, handsome rooster. Hope he behaves for you. I lived next door to one years ago...the guy had an amazing ability to sneak around everything to jump people. Rather like some geese I have know, lol. He IS gorgeous though!

Hi you sheep farmers--
I'm glad you liked the roo. He's a nice roo-- we too, have had the sort that throw themselves at you with spurs aimed -- but this guy is afraid of us enough to scuttle away if we come near. And he's nice to all his hens. Becky, I liked the OTHER roo better because he was GORGEOUS and nice, a golden pencilled Hamburg. But this one won the last scuffle, so. . .

Why do I keep falling in love with your sheep? Poppy is adorable. And I know this sounds crazy, but I envy you the yard work. I am trying to find things to do here in Rapid, but it's not the same as watching your own flowers grow. Have fun.

Nice pics, Gail. Enjoy your new camera! I agree that it seems like it is always WORK on the farm. In fact, last night I said to DH that it seems like all we do is work. Work in the city, work on the farm. Always work. ;-)

Hi Candy,Poppy IS adorable. She is the most pet-like of the orphan twins. I suspect she's going nowhere for a long time!
Hey Terri
Yep, it is all work, I agree. Except when you rest a minute and look at the wide open sky. I think that's the best part. And the birds we see.
